📢 Our plugin has a new name: Gato AI Translations for Polylang
With the latest release of v11.0, plugin Gato Multilingual for Polylang has been renamed, to give it a more descriptive name.
It is now called:
- Gato AI Translations for Polylang
Reasons for the renaming
When the plugin first launched, it offered connecting to these APIs to translate content:
- Google Translate
- DeepL
- ChatGPT
The past few weeks, our customers have given us feedback that they mostly want to use AI to translate content.
Initially they would use ChatGPT, but after running experiments using other AI services, they would find out that other LLMs might provide a better translation (Claude), lower costs (DeepSeek), or faster response (Mistral AI).
And they would request supporting these additional LLMs in the plugin.
Supporting additional LLMs
By and large, we have complied with their requests.
With v11.0, the plugin also supports:
- Claude
- DeepSeek
- Mistral AI
This way, the plugin has steadily evolved, focusing on using AI to translate our WordPress content.
The new name, Gato AI Translations for Polylang, reflects this focus.
AI and "legacy" translation providers
However we are not abandoning the "legacy" translation providers. Google Translate and DeepL are still supported, and will continue to be supported.
This way, you can choose the translation provider that best fits your needs.
Moreover, you can choose what provider to use, language by language.
For instance, you can use Mistral AI to translate certain Asian languages, DeepSeek to translate to Chinese language, and ChatGPT for all other languages.
Or if you need really fast translations, you can stick to using DeepL or Google Translate.
What's next
We will keep improving the plugin, based on the feedback we receive from our customers.
Whether you want to use AI, or prefer to use a more traditional translation service, you can do so with Gato AI Translations for Polylang.
